DeltaTRAK®, a leading innovator of cold chain management solutions and bacteria detection technologies for the pharmaceutical industry, today announced it plans to showcase the DeltaTRAK FlashCheck bacterial enzyme detection systems at its booth (#31) at the Parenteral Drug Associations' 6th Annual Global Conference on Pharmaceutical Microbiology in Bethesda, Maryland October 17 through 18, 2011. The bacterial enzyme detection systems include the FlashCheck Real-Time Bacterial Enzyme Detection system and FluoreCheck Assay system designed to be used with a digital handheld fluorometer. Both systems can be used as general screening tests. The FluoreCheck Assay system can also be used to identify specific strains of harmful bacteria in liquids or emulsified samples from surfaces of equipment. Using the bacterial enzyme detection systems will allow pharmaceutical manufacturers to identify the presence of bacteria in their manufacturing facility in as little as 20 minutes.
"Bacteria in any manufacturing facility are a serious problem and it is particularly imperative in clean rooms where injectable or oral medicines are being produced," said Frederick Wu, president and CEO of DeltaTRAK. "Using enzyme detection technology for identifying bacteria on site provides an accurate, quick and inexpensive way to screen for dangerous levels of bacterial contamination."
DeltaTRAK's bacterial enzyme technology uses proprietary substrates with bacterial enzymes that when bonded and hydrolyzed (introduced to water) create a chemical reaction. This reaction breaks the substrate into two parts. One of these parts (the tag) releases energy in the form of fluorescence. The tag's fluorescence can be seen when excited by an external source within a digital handheld fluorometer or by using reagents that provide visual, colorimetric results on a swab or test strip. Utilizing DeltaTRAK's bacterial enzyme detection assays allows users to screen for the presence of bacteria on surfaces, equipment, or in water and beverages.
The DeltaTRAK FlashCheck® Real-Time Bacterial Enzyme Detection kits include two models for testing equipment surfaces. The models are:
• Real-Time Surface Assays (equipment) for total organisms- model 50025
• Real-Time Surface Assays (equipment) for gram negative bacteria- model 50026
The FluoreCheck system includes the following assays for total organisms, gram negative bacteria or specific pathogens:
• Total Organism
• Gram Negative Bacteria
• E. coli
• Enterococcus
• S. aureus
• Fecal Coloforms
• Salmonella
• Listeria** available soon.
