With the addition of a new 3D Music Festival Program, the 2011 3D Film Festival (3DFF) is noticeably growing in size and scope. Attendees might also notice a more distinct international flavor to this year’s festival schedule. Internationals highlights of this year’s festival include a celebrity designer’s fashion show, the addition of a new South Korean & Chinese 3D Content Pavilion, and the world premiere screening of China’s NOTHING TO MY NAME.
The 2011 3D Film Festival kicked off on Thursday evening, September 22 with a screening of DOLPHIN TALE 3D followed by an Opening Night Gala that featured a one of a kind 3D fashion show from international celebrity designer Alexis Monsanto. Monsanto, who was born in the Philippines, debuted his Spring/Summer 2012 collection to an enthusiastic crowd at Avalon in Hollywood. Among those happy to get a first look at Monsanto’s new designs was actress Emily VanCamp who attended the show accompanied by several cast mates from her new ABC drama “Revenge.” “The show was amazing,“remarked actress Ashley Palmer. “It was very theatrical: lots of fantastical, outrageous outfits mixed in with very elegant daywear and dresses.” Palmer, who was recently featured on NBC’s “Love Bites,” added,“There was one blue dress at the end that I would kill to wear out on the red carpet.”
Another highlight of this year’s festival will occur on Saturday, September 24, from 6pm to 7pm at the Los Angeles Film School when the festival debuts the South Korean & Chinese 3D Content Pavilion. The Pavilion will feature exclusive 3D films, documentaries, shorts, and music videos from both China and South Korea. As The Dream Factory and 3DFF have become increasingly active in the Korean, Chinese, and American Film Markets over the past three years, Festival Director Christopher Crescitelli has traveled abroad many times to create unique opportunities for all three countries to collaborate and help aid in the growth of the 3D industry world wide.
“This presentation will be the first time, representatives of the South Korean and Chinese film markets have traveled to the U.S.A to present this unique program,” remarked Crescitelli. “We’re very excited to give festival goers this rare opportunity to see how 3D technology has evolved in other parts of the world!”
On Sunday, September 25, the festival’s closing day, it will host the World Premiere of the 3D concert film and documentary NOTHING TO MY NAME, which is the very first 3D docu-concert from China. Produced by 3D China LTD, the film chronicles the story of musician Cui Jian, widely regarded as the “Father of Chinese Rock 'N' Roll,” and features footage shot around two New Year’s 2010 concerts the rock legend gave at Beijing’s outdoor Workers’ Stadium. NOTHING TO MY NAME screens at 2pm at Avalon Hollywood as part of the 3D Film Festival’s new 3D Music Festival Program.
