SocialGoodies.com is a daily deal site that leverages e-commerce and social media marketing to raise money for charity by creating new online retail opportunities for established and emerging lifestyle brands. To date, the site has raised over $30,000 for charity.
“SocialGoodies.com is different than most other daily deal sites because our primary motivation is not to fill our coffers,” comments founder and CEO Carie Salter. “We exist to provide customers with great deals, online retailers with new opportunities and, most importantly, to fund the good work of great charities. Charity is not a trend or a gimmick for us—it is our reason for being.”
This month Social Goodies announces its second group of charitable beneficiaries: Children's Health Fund, a U.S.-based organization bringing comprehensive quality health care services to low-income and homeless children and families via mobile clinics, aka "doctors' offices on wheels"; Fisher House Foundation, which provides no-cost housing to the families of hospitalized military personnel during treatment; and Surfrider Foundation, a global environmental group dedicated to preserving our oceans, waves and beaches.
“We are thrilled to be featuring these three amazing organizations, which were selected based upon input from members of the Social Goodies community and staff,” says Salter.
Additionally, Social Goodies has launched a new content-driven Tumblr blog combining rich original and aggregated content. Columns will include stories about people making a difference, guest postings, Q&A’s with Social Goodies’ featured retailers and charities, and more.
Social Goodies continues to offer consumers up to 70% off retail on national and emerging fashion, beauty, lifestyle and home décor brands, and then donates 20% of the gross proceeds of every purchase to one of the website’s featured charities, as designated by the customer. The newly redesigned site allows users to more easily shop for great deals while simultaneously giving back. “We are excited that we are turning the simple act of purchasing a Good Deal into a Good Deed,” remarks Salter.
About Social Goodies’ Charitable Beneficiaries
Children’s Health Fund (childrenshealthfund.org), founded by singer/songwriter Paul Simon and pediatrician/advocate Irwin Redlener, MD, has developed the largest network of mobile medical, dental and mental health services for homeless and low-income children and their families in the United States, bringing care directly to those who need it. Over the past 24 years, the organization has supported more than two million health care visits for disadvantaged children, often in places where doctors and health care providers are in short supply.
Surfrider Foundation (surfrider.org) is a non-profit grassroots organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of our world’s oceans, waves and beaches through a powerful activist network. Founded in 1984 by a handful of visionary surfers in Malibu, California, the Surfrider Foundation now maintains over 60,000 members and 100 chapters worldwide.
The Fisher House program (fisherhouse.org) is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need. The program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and the hardships of military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided by the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs. To date, Fisher House Foundation has donated 54 "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers in the United States and Germany, to enable family members to be close to a loved one during his/her hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury. Annually, the Fisher House program serves more than 12,000 families at no cost to them, and has made available over 3.5 million days of lodging to family members since the program originated in 1990.
