Inspection on the tool itself is increasingly seen as the key factor in the precise and efficient use of modern machine tools. Everyone knows that the various control program packages differ greatly in the functions they offer the user. Measurement functionality is often inadequate or completely lacking with Japanese control software in particular. Users are forced to program cycles themselves, which is a difficult and time-consuming task using G-codes with endless parameters. This represents a source of latent errors.
The integration of the new version of PC-DMIS NC-Gage V2.0 m&h into the controller makes available considerably more measuring cycles than can be found even in German control programs. The same simple Windows user-interface can be used on all Windows-based machine controls. The points to be measured can be jogged to and programmed in Teach-in procedure. Operating the software is intuitive and quickly learned. It is now considerably easier for one operator to work with several machines as they all have the same, simple user interface. Self-explanatory symbols activated by function buttons on the touch-screen make programming easier and quicker. The software can perform the measuring cycles immediately or store them for later use. The measurement results are shown on the monitor. They are automatically saved for later printing or sent to others as a record. The calculation routines in PC-DMIS NC Gage are the same as the PTB-approved algorithms found on the measuring machines. On machines that do not use Windows interfaces, the software can be run on a tablet PC linked to the machine controls by WLAN. The software is already available for 3- and 5-axis machines with Fanuc or OKUMA controls.
The Kinematic Setup for 5-axis machines option offers the user some completely new possibilities. With this function the machine can check the accuracy of the 4th and 5th axes at any time and automatically overwrite the compensation values if necessary. It only takes a few minutes for the offset of the 4th and 5th axes to be determined using a calibration ball and compensated for. This allows the part to be machined to considerably narrower tolerance ranges and increases production reliability.
Therefore this new version of the software provides a complete measuring solution for modern CNC machines and makes it possible for the operator to use his machine considerably more efficiently than ever before. With advantages in particular for users of Japanese controls. Shortly this software will be made compatible with further controls in addition to Fanuc and OKUMA. The priority for development will be determined by demand for each control type. Several Japanese machine manufacturers wish to offer this software with m&h tips as a standard option on their machines.
About m&h Inprocess Messtechnik
m&h probes (mh-inprocess.com) are used to measure parts on milling machines, machining centres, lathes, turning-milling centres, grinding machines, special machines and robots. For small batches or medium to mass series production, parts can be aligned and their geometries checked while still in the machine.
Probes make everyday work easier, reduce manufacturing times and costs, and open up the full possibilities of modern machines.
