Cheryle Dyle-Palmer, chief operating officer for the Parents as Teachers national headquarters, will be recognized for her impact in the St. Louis metropolitan region during the St. Louis Business Journal’s Diverse Business Leaders Awards luncheon on Friday, September 9. Dyle-Palmer, who has held her position for the international nonprofit for nearly ten years, also serves as the Parents as Teachers interim chief executive officer.
“Cheryle’s vision and leadership has helped Parents as Teachers reach new heights in educating and supporting the families of today and the workforce of tomorrow,” said Rick Sems, a Parents as Teachers national headquarters board member and regional president for St. Louis and Southern Illinois at PNC Financial Services Group. “Her contributions and unwavering commitment to education and the development of children positively impact the St. Louis business community.”
With a career in education that spans more than three decades, Dyle-Palmer has committed her life’s work to strengthening communities. In her role at Parents as Teachers, she helped spearhead the 2009 Missouri Business Leader Summit on Early Childhood Investment, which brought together nearly 50 business leaders to discuss the role of early childhood education in strengthening Missouri’s workforce for the 21st century. Within the Parents as Teachers national headquarters team, Dyle-Palmer has championed an initiative that encourages inclusion of all cultures and people, and was instrumental in developing culturally sensitive curriculum and an overarching protocol for encouraging diversity.
Dyle-Palmer has participated in Leadership St. Louis and led initiatives with the Child Welfare League of America and the Center for the Study of Social Policy Strengthening Families approach. Together with her church and sorority, Delta Sigma Theta, Dyle-Palmer championed an adult literacy effort through St. Louis Public Schools and served as a board member of Neighborhood Houses and Interfaith Partnership.
Among Dyle-Palmer’s recent recognitions are the St. Louis American’s Salute to Excellence “Stellar Performer” Award, the Annie Malone Children and Family Center Child Advocate of the Year Award, and the University of Missouri-St. Louis Distinguished Alumni Award.
