QNAP® Systems, Inc., today announced an expansion of its popular business series desktop Turbo NAS servers with an emphasis on maximum performance. The new TS-879 Pro (8 drive) and TS-1079 Pro (10 Drive), with up to 30TB of online storage, aim to fulfill the massive storage needs of the high-end SMB environments. The new models feature Intel® Core™ i3 CPU to deliver jaw-dropping data throughput over 1,000MB/sec via 10 GbE networking, ideal for network-wide backups, file sharing in mixed Windows®, Mac®, Linux, and UNIX environments, private cloud storage, server virtualization, and high-performance computing applications such as high definition video editing.
The newly announced models are packed with performance, including SATA 6Gb/s support, USB 3.0 ports, and optional 10GbE (super-high 10Gbit/sec throughput) network card. Both models feature hot-swappable drive carriers with support for 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch drives, dual Gigabit LAN ports with failover and load balancing, multiple USB 3.0/2.0 and eSATA ports for high-speed data backup. The new models support RAID 0, 1, 10, 5, 6, 5+ hot spare, 6+ hot spare, 10+ hot spare, single disk, JBOD, and the new Global Hot Spare feature that allows a spare drive to flexibly replace a failed drive on any RAID volume on the NAS for automatic RAID data rebuilding.
The new models feature advanced iSCSI support and can even operate with simultaneous IP-SAN (iSCSI) and NAS functions. The new models are VMware® and Citrix® XenServer Ready and Windows Hyper-V compliant, ideal for network shared storage for virtual server environments.
“Network administrators of high-end SMBs can now rejoice,” said Richard Lee, president of QNAP Systems. “For now there is a viable alternative to the overpriced networked storage that has been previously marketed to the high-end SMB. QNAP’s new TS-879 Pro and TS-1079 Pro delivers uncompromising performance and features at prices sure to make the accountant smile.”
“Today's business environment requires network attached storage solutions that provide efficient data access,” said David Tuhy, General Manager, Intel Data Center Group Storage. “Intel technology powers a broad range of innovative solutions, including the Intel® Core™ i3 processor family for entry level data storage.”
