On September 30, REDF will host its third annual benefit and expo to celebrate the accomplishments of its nonprofit partners and the thousands of people whose lives they have helped transform. Dedicated to creating work for young people and adults facing the greatest barriers to employment, REDF invests in social enterprises—nonprofit-operated businesses that create jobs to employ, support, and train those overcoming homelessness, incarceration, addiction and mental illness.
Throughout its fourteen-year history, REDF has sought to make employment for those most in need of work not only accessible, but viable economically.
“If you can provide people a real job, not a makeshift job, but a real job and training, I think you’ve done what you can do to get people back on their feet, off the system, and out of poverty for themselves,” explains George R. Roberts, REDF’s Founder and Board Chairman.
Since 1997, REDF and its impressive portfolio of partner organizations have done just that - providing more than 5,700 people in the San Francisco Bay Area the training and opportunities necessary to secure lasting employment.
With job creation topping the list of national concerns, REDF’s cause is more important than ever. Accordingly, the organization expanded its social enterprise model into Southern California this year with the addition of two Los Angeles groups to its portfolio. By the end of the year, REDF will announce additional investments to increase its impact.
REDF will proudly host its 2011 Benefit +Social Enterprise Expo at San Francisco’s iconic Bently Reserve. Themed “See What a Job Can Do ™,” the event will showcase the power of this innovative approach to job creation and tell the stories of the people whose lives social enterprise has changed for the better. Please join us to celebrate REDF’s California expansion, the remarkable accomplishments of these entrepreneurial nonprofits, and the inspiring men and women who have made the transition from joblessness to work. On September 30, see for yourself what a job can do to help end chronic unemployment for individuals in California’s low-income communities.
