Vicki Langone NCMT MCS-P takes over as chief medical compliance and HIPAA officer for the Enfield Pain Clinic in order to comply with the “Patient protection and Affordability act”, which was signed into law by President Obama on March 23rd, 2010.
The law mandates that all health care delivery and compliance services (such as laboratories, billing services, insurance companies, medical offices, etc) that participate in federal programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP establish a compliance program. In an effort to comply, Vicki Langone will take on this new role for Connecticut’s Enfield Pain Clinic.
Vicki Langone completed her national certification through MCS-P of Dallas, Texas in April of this year. She hopes to contact medical doctors, chiropractors, insurance companies, billing co-payers and nursing homes to help keep up with the federal regulatory compliance laws established by the PPACA and the monthly changes published by the center for Medicare services (more commonly known as CMS). Vicki will pay special attention to the changes that especially apply to errors in billing, coding and documentation. Errors trigger audits, which can result in millions of dollars in penalties and post payment reimbursements for the government and private insurance companies. Being in compliance will ultimately save patients money when it comes to choosing their insurance.
