The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is promoting Thailand as an ideal family holiday destination with the beautiful beaches as one of its main attractions. Thailand’s excellent service standards and wide range of accommodation have attracted many family travelers. Besides, there is a wide variety of activities available to cater to families such as golf, spa and wellness and medical tourism.
According to TAT, the tourism industry will grow by 9% with the total number of tourists to Thailand amounting to 18.3 million by the end of this year. This will be an increase from the 16.5 million projections at the beginning of the year.
Thailand is situated in the middle of Southeast Asia and covers 514000 square kilometers of land. There are four Regions that make up Thailand:
1. North Thailand – The mountainous region with picturesque river valleys, offers many beautiful orchids, cool winter temperatures and wonderful native handicrafts.
2. Northeast Thailand – Suffering long dry seasons and flooding, therefore being very un-productive agriculturally, many archaeological and anthropological mysteries are closely guarded here.
3. Central Thailand – Bangkok, the capital of Thailand is located in this region known as the ‘Rice Bowl of Asia being one of the world’s most fertile rice and fruit growing places. It is the most productive region of Thailand and is home to the East Coasts white sandy beaches.
4. South Thailand – Dominated by mountainous terrain, the South is a narrow peninsula and is in the main devoted to rice and rubber production. The unspoiled coast here extends over 2,000km with the South China Sea Eastwards and westward lies the Andaman Sea.
Phuket, situated in the Andaman Sea of southern Thailand is actually 70% mountainous and is the largest Island in Thailand; it is becoming increasingly popular among family travelers. Reports have shown that there are more family travelers from Europe to Phuket. Moreover, new direct flights from Europe to Phuket are making it easier for Europeans travelers to visit. For instance, Thai Airways will be routing new flights from Copenhagen to Phuket in November this year.
“With more flights to Phuket, we can expect to see more families traveling to Phuket,” commented Jarrat Beaumont, Group Sales Director of Castlewood Group, a commercial real estate developer based in Singapore. “Phuket has always been well known for its stunning white sandy beaches, lush forest tumbling waterfalls and a paradise for water sports activities, making it an ideal travel destination for families,” he added.
The 8over8 hotel, a project by Castlewood Group, will be situated in Phuket, near the beautiful Bang Tao Beach and Laguna Resort. It is scheduled for completion by the end of 2012.
