"I worked my way to performing in front of thousands of people at NBA games without major support and I worked my way to where I was performing at a big arena... I'm building a name, I'm building a brand and for someone to come with an album and an alias the name "Teflon Don" and they have big budgets to put behind it, it blocks me from progressing. I was climbing the ladder and it feels like I went straight downhill and I don't feel like that's fair," Teflon explained.
Along with rapper Rick Ross born William Leonard Roberts II, DJ Khaled born Khaled bin Abdul Khaled, Def Jam, Universal Music Group, Slip N Slide Records and Mayback Music Group are all named in the infringement lawsuit filed in Federal Court by the hip hop artist and rapper Teflon Don due to Rick Ross' 2010 "Teflon Don" album.
The rapper Donald Askew who earned his name Teflon Don while in the U.S. Military more than 10 years ago, has not released details but did reveal he has "valid evidence" for court and revealed that he and DJ Khaled, who's president of Def Jam South, the southern division of Def Jam Recordings the subsidiary owned by Universal Music Group and working label with Rick Ross's Maybach Music Group, has had business dealings together; which is evident on Teflon Don's song "I Represent" featuring DJ Khaled who's on the song saying,"To My Homie Teflon Don, we the best," which was released in 2007 through Coast2Coast mixtapes on Volume 10.
According to plaintiff, rapper Teflon Don, who spoke with MemphisRap.com candidly on the lawsuit, this has put him in a place where it has affected not only his career at branding the name for many years as his moniker, but also monetary.
I was climbing the ladder and it feels like I went straight downhill and I don't feel like that's fair," stated Teflon Don who has performed his song "M.E.M.P.H.I.S. Grizzlies" in front of thousands of game attendees.
