Already in production,“Untold Tales of the Comic Industry” will tackle a vast array of topics, ranging from early childhood stories and creative inspirations to issues of race and gender, both on the page and within the industry. Jerwa, a comic writer best known for his work on “G.I. Joe,” “Battlestar Galactica,” and “Mighty Crusaders,” says that early filming has “already guaranteed a documentary experience that is both welcoming and unflinching. Nothing is off the table.”
This documentary takes a look at the comic industry from the inside out, guided by writers, illustrators, editors, distributors, Hollywood storytellers, and global fans of the art form. You'll see the genesis of our shared love of comics, and explore the inspirations that keep creators running. You'll learn what these creators love about the industry today, and what they hope to see improved for the industry's survival tomorrow. This film isn't a tell-all in the scandalous sense, but it IS full of honest stories and opinions offered up by the people behind the pages.
Following the example set by countless other film projects, Jerwa and his film team are using the popular fundraising website to help finance the production. The stated goal of $18,000.00 will allow the filmmakers to travel to Los Angeles, Portland and New York City for extended periods, interviewing the vast number of comic creators and publishers who call those cities home. As with all projects), if the goal is not reached by the specified end date of September 15th, 2011, Jerwa’s documentary will receive absolutely no funding.
“Untold Tales of the Comic Industry” is an independent documentary created and written by Brandon Jerwa and directed by Ali Mohsenian. Jerwa, Mohsenian and Thomas Nord are producing.
