AmiCOUR IP Group, LLC today announced that Art Cohen, MBA and Tony Escobar, MBA have earned their CLP credential. The professional designation, also known as Certified Licensing Professional™, is the result of a program initiated by the Licensing Executives Society and administered by Certified Licensing Professionals, Inc. The CLP program assures that each certified professional is fully qualified in the management of intellectual property (IP) assets, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and more.
The certification program was created as an initiative of the Licensing Executives Society (LES) to publicly recognize IP licensing professional experience and qualifications, including professional and continuing education. The CLP program addresses internationally applicable standards, ethics, and excellence. In addition to professional credibility and prestige, the CLP credential assures IP owners and fellow licensing professionals that they are dealing with qualified, ethical professionals. The majority of CLP certified professionals are active in LES.
“We have built an organization made of IP industry leaders, where our standards include advanced degrees, comprehensive IP experience, and, now, across the board certification of all AmiCOUR professionals,” stated Scott Bechtel, the company’s managing partner and CEO. “Both Art and Tony have extensive experience managing all aspects of intellectual property, and their new CLP status reflects their IP knowledge and successful career tracks.”
Tony Escobar is AmiCOUR’s Executive Vice President located in the Denver area. In addition to being active in the Mountain States business and legal community, Tony manages a national patent brokerage and financial IP services practice. Tony recently assisted in preparing the company’s amicus curiae in Microsoft v. i4i before the United States Supreme Court. As a result of the 8-0 outcome, he recently helped teach a continuing legal education workshop on the high profile case.
Art Cohen is AmiCOUR’s Executive Vice President in charge of Silicon Valley Operations. His CLP credential reflects a successful track record building a multi-million dollar consumer product licensing company. In additional to being active in West Coast investment, business, and legal communities, Art manages AmiCOUR’s early and mid-stage technology licensing and brokering practice. He assists Silicon Valley’s startups, and also consults in IP litigation strategy and case management.
Bechtel explained,“Our Company is focused on best practices and the highest ethical standards. Both LES and the CLP program play a role helping us meet these objectives, and I congratulate my colleagues on this achievement.” Bechtel is also a Certified Licensing Professional and serves as Vice Chair of the Society’s High Technology Sector. He also serves as a member of the LES public policy committee and CLP ethics committee.
