APS today presented five diverse businesses with the 2011 APS Diverse Supplier Excellence Award. Acknowledging the important role women- and minority-owned businesses play in APS’s success, the award winning companies were recognized at a luncheon designed to celebrate business diversity in the community.
“We recognize the importance of partnering with diverse businesses. The outcome benefits our company, our customers, our shareholders and the state’s economy,” said APS Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Don Brandt. “The five companies honored have provided superior service and products to APS while embracing our company’s values.
The five diverse suppliers were each recognized in categories that are in concert with APS’s values:

Over the past five years, APS has spent more than a half-billion dollars on women- and minority-owned businesses that provide a wide variety of services and products for the company.
“We want to do business with suppliers who share our vision and company values,” said APS Vice President of Supply Chain Management Barbara Gomez. “This award is an opportunity for our company to honor the suppliers who continue to bring innovative ideas and solutions that enable us to better serve our customers.”
Gomez said the relationship between APS and its many diverse suppliers is mutually beneficial. “APS gets superior products and services and our suppliers benefit from APS’s support and guidance along the way,” she said.
