Turning 105: A celebration of independent living with Margaret Kohlhauff
Tower Grove Manor retirement community resident Margaret Kohlhauff has lived in St. Louis all of her 104-year life, seeing the city through historical moments, like the 1918 Spanish Flu, the creation of the Gateway Arch, and several other developments. She carries a unique perspective about life in the city and debunks myths about aging as an active, alert, thriving woman.
She takes no prescription medications, seldom requires a doctor’s care, and has lived at Tower Grove Manor independently for more than three decades. Using only a walker for minor support, Ms. Kohlhauff attends and takes part in Tower Grove Manor’s many activities and events.
WHO: A St. Louis native, Ms. Kohlhauff went to McKinley High School and later worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for local businesses. She always took the streetcar to work and lived for many years on Virginia Avenue, not far from Tower Grove Manor.

About Tower Grove Manor
Tower Grove Manor is an independent living retirement community sponsored by St. Andrew’s Resources for Seniors. For more than 50 years, St. Andrew’s Resources for Seniors System has been the place where seniors, their families and caregivers find answers. Whether it’s occasional help that allows a senior to remain independent at home, a comfortable retirement residence that feels like home, or an assisted living or skilled nursing facility, St. Andrew’s is addressing the needs of our aging population. Thanks to donations to our Charitable Foundation, we are able to assist seniors at all income levels, helping them find and access the support they need so they can Worry Less.
