NewswireToday - /newswire/ - Jersey City, NJ, United States, 2011/07/09 - Masking tape artist Kayt Hester presents a solo show based on the music of The Pixies at Jersey City Gallery, LITM - KaytHester.com.

The exhibition offers guests a voyeuristic glance into Kayt Hester’s imagination as she recreates her favorite songs by The Pixies, weaving vibrant imagery with hand torn black masking tape spilled across white canvas. Hester’s interpretations will showcase familiar song titles and lyrics in this unconventional medium, challenging viewers to visualize music unlike ever before.

She will be returning to LITM, a venue reputed for showcasing emerging artists from Jersey City and beyond. Hester credits LITM proprietor Jelynne Jardiniano for encouraging her masking tape art and the first opportunity to showcase her work in 2005. Hester has since participated in several group shows at LITM and “Caribou” will mark her second solo show at this location. Hester has also shown at venues such as Jersey City Museum and In Rivers. Her work has been featured in Nylon Magazine.

“Caribou” kicks off on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 from 7pm until 10pm at LITM, located at 142 Jersey Avenue in Downtown Jersey City. DJ Dancing Tony, a resident merrymaker, will be on hand to spin song by The Pixies and local photographer Emily August will be capturing guest portraits in front of a custom masking tape tapestry that will be sold with a percentage of proceeds benefiting Jersey City's Liberty Humane Society.
