When you run a small business, there’s only one way to increase visibility and profits: through marketing. That’s according to one Solo-E.com Certified Expert Paula Eder who is using “Entrepreneurs’ Do It Yourself Marketing Month” to try some new ways to market herself and her business effectively.
Observed in June,“Entrepreneurs’ Do-It-Yourself Marketing Month” calls attention the millions of small business owners who do their own marketing everyday to help their companies succeed.
“If you want to have your small business stand out in a crowd, you need to use marketing,” explains this Time Management expert. “Many solo-professionals starting out cannot afford the often high price tag of a marketing firm. But they can learn some of the skills to help promote their businesses and do it themselves. Founded in 2006, Eder’s business, Finding Time, helps spirit-driven solopreneurs and small business owners align their core values and energy with their time choices and behaviors so that they can make more money, create more freedom, and find more time. Eder is one of 50 solo professionals who are certified by Solo-E.com.
“In today’s economy, it’s even more critical than ever to find low-cost, high result marketing tactics that work for the solo professional,” says Terri Zwierzynski, CEO and founder of Solo-E.com. “It’s about choosing one or two tactics that your target market responds to and then sticking with them. Yes, it takes more of your time, but you will be creating connections with prospects that you wouldn’t be able to produce with just a bigger budget.”
Together, Eder and Zwierzynski share some DIY marketing tactics during Entrepreneurs’ Do It Yourself Marketing Month:
1. Get active in social media. “We’ve made more connections with other solo professionals using social media than any other way,” says Solo-E.com founder Zwierzynski. She points to Solo-E.com’s Facebook page at facebook.com/SoloEntrepreneurLifestyle which sees more than 400 followers a month and the Solo-E.com twitter feed at twitter.com/TerriZSoloCEO with nearly 20,000 followers.
2. Article marketing. “I’ve find that writing articles and posting them online to sites such as Solo-E.com has made me much more visible in my niche,” says Eder, the Time Management Coach and Mentor.
3. Use press releases. According to Zwierzynski,“Press releases can garner a lot of traffic online, as well as getting you media coverage offline, effectively increasing your visibility and credibility.”
4. Eder advises,“Follow blogs in your niche and engage with them. Leave comments, ask questions, and offer information. Initiating dialogue with other experts and their readers is an excellent way to increase your visibility and your authority.”
5. “And don’t forget to connect with yourself,” says Eder. “You might not think of it as marketing, per se, but it’s important to revisit the reasons that you do what you do. Find time to reconnect with your values, your passion – what you love about the path you have chosen. This will revitalize you … and in turn, you’ll approach your marketing efforts with renewed energy and clarity. It’s a wonderful gift to yourself!”
