ideasUK says that bosses who bank their employees’ bright ideas can save up to £50million a year – and there’s no better time to start tapping into that workplace talent than during 'International Ideas Week'.
ideasUK launched the first 'National Ideas Day' on 14 March, 2001, to mark the anniversary of Einstein’s birth, and the concept has gone from strength to strength ever since. This year, events will be held across the country for a whole week from 9th May on the theme ‘Ideas, Innovation and Engaging your Employee’s’.
Anthony Denatale, operations manager for ideasUK, says: "In tough times it’s vital that businesses take every opportunity to become leaner and more efficient. Setting up a staff suggestion scheme, creating an office think tank or holding a weekly brainstorming breakfast could help generate cost-cutting ideas, improve your service and boost your bottom line all using an existing resource – your employees."
In 2010, Ideas UK members saved over £50million and saw a return on investment of at least £5 for every £1 spent through their staff suggestions schemes, according to the organisation’s annual survey. Employees are ideally placed to identify opportunities for improvement as part of their daily working life, and some of the most impressive savings are the result of small, simple suggestions.
Free events in London and Cardiff will offer advice and practical examples from market leading organisations that have made employee innovation an important part of the business and are reaping rewards such as cost savings, and a motivated workforce fit to face the future.
Anthony Denatale adds: "Good ideas aren’t just for the good times. The current economic situation makes it even more important for businesses to build suggestion schemes into their management strategies and encourage their employees to identify efficiency savings. And you might even generate a ‘Eureka’ moment – the bright idea that helps your business boom."
