St. Catherine of Siena Academy Foundation Board announces the appointment of a new leadership team for the 2011 – 2012 School Year. It includes the Principal, Coordinator of Campus Ministries, Chaplain, Dean of Students & Athletic Director. The Academy will open in its new, $35 million, state-of-the-art, 137,000 sq ft facility on Napier Road (just south of Grand River Avenue) in Wixom, Michigan.
For its inaugural year, St. Catherine of Siena Academy has been blessed to have Rev. Richard Elmer, C.S.B. serving as its Principal. In a planned succession, Father will move on to become the Chaplain. Mrs. Kathy Tarnacki has accepted the invitation to become Principal, effective July 1st, 2011. Sr. Mary Ann Foggin S.G.L. will become the Coordinator of Campus Ministries. Mr. Luke Condit will also be joining the leadership team as the Dean of Students and Athletic Director.
About Mrs. Kathy Tarnacki, Principal: She holds a Master of Arts Degree in Reading from Eastern Michigan University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Michigan State University. Kathy is currently the Principal at St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Jackson, Michigan. Tarnacki started her educational career as an elementary school teacher at Eriksson Elementary School in Canton, Michigan and has more than 30 years experience in education. Kathy is very excited about becoming a part of St. Catherine’s. She sees the vision and mission of St. Catherine’s as the critical foundation necessary for supporting young women in faith, virtue, dignity, and joy as they embrace God’s unique plan and purpose for their lives.
About Sr. Mary Ann Foggin, S.G.L., Coordinator of Campus Ministries
Sr. Mary Ann is currently the Director of Vocation Services for the Diocese of Lansing. She is also one of the founders and current spiritual formator for St. Catherine’s House of Discernment for college women attending University of Michigan. Sr. Mary Ann Foggin is a member of Servants of God’s Love. She is very excited to be joining the St. Catherine’s team, saying “Having spent the last 5 years visiting students in our Catholic grade schools and high schools in the Lansing Diocese, I am encouraged by all the ways the Holy Spirit is moving in young hearts and souls, and all the ways these young people are trusting the Lord with their lives. It is a tremendous privilege for me to now focus my time and energy on the young women of St. Catherine of Siena Academy, encouraging them to trust that as a beloved daughter of the Father, God's plan for their lives is perfect”
About Rev. Richard Elmer, C.S.B, Chaplain
Fr. Elmer is a proponent of Pope John Paul II’s apostolic letter,“The Dignity of Women” and their calling to make a difference in a world so in need of change. Fr. Elmer is well-known for his years of dedication to Catholic education, including having served as President of Detroit Catholic Central High School.
About Mr. Luke Condit, Dean of Students & Athletic Director
Luke holds a Master of Theological Studies Degree in Pastoral Theology from Ave Maria University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theology and Philosophy from Franciscan University. He is currently the Associate Dean of Students for Ave Maria University.
Msgr. Robert McClory, Moderator of the Curia for the Archdiocese of Detroit, served as the Search Committee chair. Other members of the Committee were Msgr. Charles Kosanke, Rector/President of the Ss. Cyril and Methodius Seminary, and Dr. Mary Healy, Associate Professor of Scripture at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit. Msgr. Robert McClory said of the search process,“We have assembled a team with a deep commitment to Catholic education, strong professional and academic credentials, and love for forming young women. We are very grateful that we have a blend of diverse backgrounds and experiences to serve parents, students, teachers, and the wider Community.”
The Most Revered Allen H. Vigneron, Archbishop of Detroit, commented on the future of St. Catherine of Siena Academy saying “I keep St. Catherine’s in my prayers as it educates young women in a healthy, wholesome faith environment that nourishes their souls, minds and bodies while always keeping in mind their identity as daughters of our Almighty God.”
