AegeanLinux - one of many next generation Linux Distribution, whose category includes the likes of Gentoo and Ubuntu Linux, is fast excelling in the world of "Modern Day" computing. No longer is Linux just a blank and white screen that nerds use, it can be easy and simple, and in the case of AegeanLinux, secure.
Lead Developer and inventor of AegeanLinux, Tim Groeneveld announced yesterday on the AegeanLinux website, that "... it is time for evolution to begin. Time for the age of the dinosaur to become the age of the flying car. AegeanLinux must no longer sit as a cave man in a cave.".
AegeanLinux v0.6 is being released after a very successfully release, seen on the website as "v0.5".
Kyle Brooks, the Security Release Manager (SRM) for version 0.5, said that during the whole version 0.5 series, there were only two necessary security updates.
Many new features are expected to come into this new version of AegeanLinux. Tim hinted earlier today on IRC, that there will be new and easy to use configuration tools, including a new graphical installer. This will place AegeanLinux on Parr with commercial operating systems, both Linux and Others.
Kyle Brooks said, "One of the best features I think, coming in AegeanLinux v0.6, will be the new pacman [The Package Manager for AegeanLinux]. This new pacman allows you to have more options when you choose what software you would like to have installed on your PC."
The beta Release of AegeanLinux v0.6-beta1 will be unleashed on the plannet to the public on New Year's Day, 2007.
Tim Groeneveld summed it up in one sentence last night at the unavailing, "The countdown for a revolution in computer usage, begins ... NOW!"
