After making its debut in New York, Minneapolis and Chicago, BRP's advanced concept Can-Am Spyder hybrid roadster will be presented to the public for the first time in Canada during the Montreal Motorcycle Show at the Convention Centre from February 25 to 27 in Montréal, Québec.

BRP announced the four-year research & development project for a plug-in hybrid electric version of the Can-Am Spyder RS roadster last December, in partnership with the Centre de technologies avancées BRP-Université de Sherbrooke and with funding from the Government of Canada's Automotive Partnership Program.

The hybrid roadster will be equipped with an electric motor, lithium-ion battery and the Rotax 600 Advanced Combustion Efficiency (ACE) engine. This engine is currently used in some models of BRP’s 2011 Ski-Doo snowmobiles. With 8 L/100 km, it is the most fuel-efficient engine in the snowmobile industry.

BRP aims for the hybrid roadster to be 50% more fuel-efficient than the current Can-Am Spyder RS roadster with comparable acceleration and a total range of 600 kilometres. It will also cut CO2 emissions by half.

The advanced concept vehicle will be displayed for the first time to the Canadian public this weekend, February 25, 26 and 27 at the BRP booth #1135 during the Montreal Motorcycle Show at the Montreal Convention Centre, 1001 Place Jean-Paul-Riopelle, in Montréal.

The next dimension in open-road riding, the Can-Am Spyder roadster is a paradigm-shift with its unique
Y-architecture. This three-wheeled vehicle, with two wheels in the front and one in the rear, offers a completely new and stunning look. Launched in 2007, it can best be described as part motorcycle and part convertible sports car.

In 2010, the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) adopted a ruling that permits them to issue a certificate allowing people to drive three-wheeled vehicles as long as they hold a Class 5 driver’s licence (passenger vehicle) and have attended a seven-hour training course given by a recognized motorcycle driving school.
