Mellon Romania and Mellon Poland, members of Mellon Group of Companies, were recognized for their drive, innovation and successful entrepreneurship in 2010 Europe's 500, the annual list which selects the 500 most dynamic companies in Europe. The award certificates were presented by former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, during the awards ceremony that was held on February 3rd, at the European Parliament in Brussels to honour the top growth companies and to release Europe’s 500’s ranking.
Mellon Poland and Mellon Romania were ranked 99th and 133rd respectively among 500 European companies and were the only companies from Poland and Romania to be included in the list. Overall, there were more than 2,700 companies from over 30 European countries whose data were analyzed and verified by Dun & Bradstreet, one of the biggest sources of commercial information and insight on businesses globally, in order to create the list of the top growth companies in Europe.
More specifically, for the period under consideration (2007-2009), Mellon Poland more than doubled its turnover while increasing its number of employees by 50%. For the same period, Mellon Romania registered a 45% increase in its turnover and more than 200% increase in its number of employees. In 2010 both companies continued their brisk pace of growth.
Nicos Petrakopoulos, President and Managing Director of Mellon Group of Companies, commented “this is a great honour for us to have two more companies of the Group recognized for their outstanding performance both in terms of turnover and employment growth, especially amidst such a challenging period. Most importantly, this recognition reflects the remarkable effort of 2500 people who are at the heart of Mellon Group of Companies, and make our vision a reality.”
Altogether, the top 200 companies in the list, created almost 28,581 new jobs between 2007 and 2009, bringing their total employment to 175,671 in December 2009 and a total turnover of 37.566 billion Euros. These companies grew on average by 71 employees per year and employ on average 878 employees. The average turnover per company was 190 million Euros. Juan Roure, co-founder of Europe’s 500: “These are exceptional achievements considering that there was a negative growth of approximately 5 % in Europe in 2009.”
About Europe’s 500

The organisation, founded in 1996, represents more than 2,300 growth companies from across Europe, with the common goal of contributing to growth and more employment in Europe and promoting entrepreneurship. Europe’s 500 does not see itself as representing interests in the classic sense, but rather as an NGO, offering its know-how and expertise for the collective good. With the European Growth Summit, Europe’s 500 offers an established platform both for dialogue with EU institutions and for the exchange of experiences between entrepreneurs. Europe’s 500 is open to high-growth European companies.
