Wine education is finally an American institution. The Wine School of Philadelphia is unveiling a comprehensive wine education diploma program for the 2006/2007 academic year. The Diploma Oenotropae is a year-long comprehensive program with professional certification at the university level.
“The dream of a national wine education program is one step closer today,” says Keith Wallace, the founder of the Wine School of Philadelphia. “We can now offer university-backed programs that will become the new benchmark of wine education across the globe. The programs, backed by the newly formed American Wine Foundation, are the result of yearlong endeavor to give Americans a competitive advantage in the increasingly international wine marketplace.
While the program is designed for professionals, the program still incorporates certificate programs for the wine enthusiasts. “The Foundation and Intermediate certificate programs are very consumer-friendly” says Keith “and are still the core of our programs, as they have been for the last five years.”
The Oenotropae is named after the granddaughters of Dionysus, the Greek god of wine. While they could turn water into wine, this diploma program transforms wine into knowledge. To earn the Diploma Oenotropae, the student must earn the five core certificates listed below and one elective certificate.
In celebration of the new program, the school has extended its flagship Foundation program and added comprehensive online content to the certificate program.
