The Center for African American Genealogical Research, Inc. (CAAGRI) and partner sponsor the University of Mary Washington will host a commemorative dinner on Saturday, February 19, 2011.
The Black tie event, which will take place at the Fredericksburg Hospitality House & Conference Center in Fredericksburg, VA will be held in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Freedom Rides with a special tribute to the late Dr. James L. Farmer, Jr.
2011 Living Legacy award recipient, U.S. Congressman Bob Filner will reflect on his role as a freedom rider during one of the most turbulent periods in America’s history. “We felt it was appropriate that Congressman Filner be included in the honors at this dinner. He was very steadfast in his resolve to keep integration at the forefront of the national debate on Civil Rights”, said Paula D. Royster, president and CEO of CAAGRI.
The evening begins with the cocktail hour at 6 pm. followed by the program dinner from 7 pm. to 10 pm. with special performances by the Richmond Boys Choir and the Gye Nyame Drummers and Dancers.
