On January 24, the United Nations will declare the launch of the International Year of Forests 2011.
Skip Haynes of the Laurel Canyon Animal Company, a Los Angeles based record company that creates music that is exclusively animal and environmentally related will begin offering a CD based on the endangered pink dolphins of the Amazon as a fund raiser to benefit the Rainforest Conservation fund in conjunction with the United Nations declaration of 2011 being the 'Year of the Forest.'
Music From the Pink Dolphins is a captivating CD that brings attention to the endangered pink amazonian river dolphins and the destruction of their rainforest habitat. The recording has the dual purpose of bringing attention to a critical part of the world needing help and to help fund reforestation projects in the Amazon.
The CD contains 10 songs inspired by the animals, people, plants and legends of the Amazon. Donna DeLory (Madonna) and Lisbeth Scott (Narnia) are the primary vocalists. Native instruments imported from the Amazon were used to help create the unique and dreamily beautiful recordings.
Music From the Pink Dolphins is a musical journey up the Amazon that took over a year to create and is based on the book, Journey of the Pink Dolphins by award winning author Sy Montgomery, who acted as a consultant. Roxanne Kremer - a pink dolphin expert, conservationist and the founder of the International Society For The Preservation of the Tropical Rain Forest (ISPTR) also acted as a consultant as did Vera da Silva, head of the aquatic mammals laboratory at the Institute Nacional de Pesquias da Amazonia in Manaus.
The Laurel Canyon Animal Company also utilized the services of Penelope Smith, the foremost cetacean communicator in the world to contact the pink dolphins for their input in creating the music.
Vera da Silva provided a rare recording of a wild pink dolphin, which became an integral element of the music. When you hear it, you'll be listening to the ancient language of the whales - a language unchanged for millions of years. Sounds of the Amazon permeate the recordings. The tribal rhythms of nature and man are intermingled to make it a singular musical heartbeat from the earth that is both enchanting and extremely relaxing - a welcome antidote to today's tribulations.
50% of the net proceeds from Music From the Pink Dolphins are donated to the Rainforest Conservation Fund to help finance and sustain the Amazonian reforestation program (ACRCTT) they have instituted and is described by Sy Montgomery in her book.
Haynes, a songwriter, producer and graphic artist who lives in the Laurel Canyon area of Los Angeles, started the Laurel Canyon Animal Company in 1999 along with his partner Dana Walden. It is dedicated to creating a bridge between animals and people through music. It has also created CDs about, for or with dogs, cats, a parrot named Carla, Koko the gorilla and most recently, a coyote named Rosie.
