The social enterprise, Offset Warehouse, was conceived as both a B2B and B2C solution to laziness when it comes to the time and research needed to both create ethical fashion and buy affordable but chic, ethical clothing. Charlie became increasingly frustrated by the lack of resources, products, information and help while producing her own ethical, menswear collections, and was exasperated with having either hippy, fuddy-duddy or phenomenally priced, ethical womenswear to choose from. So upon graduation in 2009, she set about addressing these issues.
Supported by leading industry bodies such as The Ethical Fashion Forum and The Organic Exchange, Offset Warehouse only associates with products, people and businesses that have environmental or social benefits, and styles itself as a one-stop-shop for ethical fabrics and haberdashery, trendy eco-fashion and as an essential resource center for designers, students and hobbyists.
The young designer claimed, "At college, I couldn’t believe my peers and even professors just didn’t care where their fabrics came from and what effect they had socially and environmentally… even saying the word “ethical” made them shudder. Of course, in some cases it wasn’t that they didn’t care, it was that they were just too lazy or time-pressured to do the research that it took to do things ethically.
“For ages I couldn’t understand why consumers and my fellow designers refused to get educated or simply put the time in. One day, I realised that the only way to make a difference and help solve the problem was to present consumers and designers with an easy way to be ethical.
