The non-profit Kearny Alliance is accepting scholarship applications from citizens of Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, Lao, China, and the US for graduate and undergraduate study at selected schools in the US, Hong Kong, Beijing and the Philippines (kearnyalliance.org/scholarships_2011.aspx).

Awards are available for qualified individuals for the following schools and programs:

Citizens of Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam
• Hong Kong: MA Journalism (Hong Kong Baptist University);
• Philippines: MBA (De La Salle University), MS Development Communication (UP Los Banos), MA Development Economics (UP Diliman);

Mainland China citizens
• USA: MBA (Thunderbird School of Global Management);
• Hong Kong: BBA (Hong Kong Baptist University) (for GDUFS students);

American citizens
• Beijing, China: MA Global Business Journalism (Tsinghua University) (for graduates of ASU Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication).

“Our education and career development programs create opportunities for bright young scholars to engage in learning, and to build a solid foundation of marketable skills in line with our mission of Aid through Trade,” said Alexander Boome, program director of the Kearny Alliance.

“We share Robert Maynard Hutchins’ view that ‘The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives.’ Through internships and post-graduation careers, we help foster that learning beyond university and into the workplace.

“We currently have 11 Scholars and will add nine new scholarships for academic year 2011-2012.”

One Kearny Alliance Scholar graduate from China, Jean Shen, is now working in Shenzhen with Global Sources as a manager of buyer events & services, Private Sourcing Events,

Khiem Vu, also a Scholar graduate, is manager of the Kearny Alliance’s Developing County Export Assistance Program, based in his hometown, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. His team in India, Cambodia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Indonesia helps small and medium-sized exporters reach overseas buyers and create jobs through exports.

Another Kearny Alliance Scholar, Karen Pham from Hanoi, Vietnam, is working as an export consultant with the Export Assistance Program. • Trade policy research: One major initiative is The Future of US China Trade .Com (futureofuschinatrade.com), an online center for data, analysis, and insightful discussion on U.S. - China trade offering Forum Discussions, News & Analysis, Facts & Figures, Discussion Outcomes, Book reviews and Meet the Experts. This was developed from The Kearny Alliance – Arizona State University forums on China, trade and the world economic order high-level series of interlinked meetings – held in Phoenix and Beijing which explored potential solutions to issues and challenges of mutual benefit to China-US trade relations.
