Princeton, NJ, United States, 2011/01/06 - Award-winning architectural design firm KSS Architects LLP has promoted Merilee Meacock, AIA, LEED AP, from principal to partner.

KSS Architects LLP is excited to announce the promotion of Merilee Meacock, AIA, LEED AP, to partner. She joins the five other partners who lead the firm of 40 team members.
Meacock has been instrumental in several of KSS’ academic and educational projects. Most notably, she led the creation of the firm’s preK-12 market, which has become one of its strongest and fastest-growing markets in recent years. She also is instrumental in the expansion of KSS’ breadth of work in student housing and mixed-use development.
Allan Kehrt, FAIA, LEED AP, founding partner at KSS, said the promotion is well deserved.
“Simply put, Merilee can do it all,” he said. “We originally hired her as a summer intern to do some drawings. Then she began grabbing additional responsibilities and never letting go until everything was complete and extraordinarily well done. I’m not sure we ever officially hired her!
“Over time, she has become an irreplaceable member of the firm,” he added with more seriousness. “We are delighted that she is now a partner.”
Meacock’s success derives from not only skills in design, but also client relationships, project management and marketing. She was invaluable to the firm’s win of several renowned projects, including the Teachers Village in Newark, N.J., New Jersey City University’s West Campus Master Plan and a new school for Eden Autism Services. Her clients include Uncommon Schools and TEAM Charter Schools, a Network of KIPP Schools, two of the most successful charter school networks in the nation.
Meacock sustains long-lasting relationships with her clients and works endlessly to move their projects forward; for example, she has worked with NJCU and its master plan since 2003. She has also helped schools and institutions identify public funding opportunities and organized community-wide forums to invite input on projects.
A recognized leader in the design of learning environments, Meacock is featured in the American Institute of Architects’ Web site on “How Design Works.” In 2003, the New Jersey chapter of the AIA named her Young Architect of the Year. She has presented at the National Charter School Conference and served on the national committee for the U.S. Green Building Council’s development of LEED for Schools, a sustainable design rating system for K-12 schools.
At KSS, she participated in the design of many award-winning projects, including Kean University’s Human Rights Institute, Rutgers University’s Biomedical Engineering building, and NJCU’s University Academy Charter High School.
Merilee earned a Bachelor of Architecture at The Pennsylvania State University. She joined KSS Architects in 1990 and rose steadily through the firm. She was promoted to a principal in 2009.
In her residential community of Cranbury, N.J., Meacock is a member of the zoning board and a den leader for the local Boy Scouts of America chapter, to which her three sons belong.
