CollabNet®, the leader in Agile application lifecycle management (Agile ALM) in the Cloud, today announced the immediate availability of CollabNet Lab Management 2.3, the latest version of the company’s Cloud-based server provisioning and profile management offering. Lab Management enables distributed development, build, and test teams to significantly reduce infrastructure costs while promoting development productivity and rapid innovation. New features in Lab Management 2.3 include vSphere support, faster and more powerful virtualization on ESX and ESXi servers, the ability to provision Windows 2008, SUSE SLES 11, and other modern OS platforms, and a wide array of platform upgrades.
CollabNet Lab Management provides:
• Dynamic allocation of server infrastructure for development, build, and test in the cloud using CollabNet’s cloud, Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), and any other on-premise or external cloud
• Centralized management of cross-platform system profiles, which provides increasingly rich build and test images throughout the development lifecycle
• Centralized management and reuse of build components
• Rich project portals, analytics, and reports that align teams and provide operational and usage feedback to developers and executives
• Optional integration with CollabNet TeamForge and CollabNet Subversion Edge, enabling complete lifecycle traceability
Using CollabNet Lab Management
Geographically distributed teams use Lab Management to reserve a set of physical or virtual systems from a central pool of resources and build these systems according to globally shared and accessible pre-defined profiles. Once build and test activities are completed, the reserved systems are released back into the shared pool of resources for immediate re-provisioning. The build and test results can be published to a secure, central library, enabling re-use and standardization across the entire application lifecycle and providing traceability from the original requirements (e.g., agile epics or user stories) all the way to the production release hand-off package.
IT organizations are increasingly driving towards real-time data exchange and communication to enable their globally distributed teams to collaboratively develop and deploy applications into the datacenter. Lab Management provides these cross-department DevOps capabilities by enabling distributed development teams to quickly and dynamically reconfigure development, build, and test environments to address production issues discovered by IT operations or QA teams.
