The existing implementation of the AIS BetaPlanner at voestalpine in Linz which is now successful in operation since 4 years is optimizing daily the schedules of the Hot Strip Mill and is one of the components of the hot-charging solution in place. With the addition of a new reheating furnace, some new optimization possibilities can be exploited.
The BetaPlanner Furnace Optimisation module will optimize the charging and discharging sequence using a combination of a pure thermal and/or a fix pattern model. This model will consider the reheating time needed for each slab and consider the best furnace to use at a given time. This optimization will be done considering the constraints from two pusher type furnaces and the new walking beam furnace as well as all the HSM schedule related constraints.

The main goal of the project is to use the capacity of the new reheating furnace at best by reducing the furnace and/or mill bottlenecks as well as to better support the hot-charging objectives of voestalpine Stahl.
The project will go live during commissioning of the new reheating furnace in Spring 2007.
