GastroIntestinal Healthcare recently served as silver sponsor of this year’s Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America’s (CCFA) EDGE Gala. The event was held on Thursday, November 11th at Bay 7 of the American Tobacco Campus. Part of the proceeds of the event went to benefit the Carolinas Chapter of the CCFA’s Camp Oasis program, which provides kids with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis the memorable joys of summer camp. This is GastroIntestinal Healthcare’s second year sponsoring this event.
CCFA (ccfa.org) is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to finding a cure for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. The organization was founded in 1967 by Irwin M. and Suzanne Rosenthal, William D. and Shelby Modell, and Henry D. Janowitz, M.D. Four decades ago, CCFA created the field of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis research. Today, the Foundation funds cutting-edge studies at major medical institutions, nurtures investigators at the early stages of their careers, and finances underdeveloped areas of research.
CCFA Community Development Manager for the Triangle, Tracey Coppedge, says that CCFA exceeded their fundraising goals this year due, in part, to the community and corporate partnerships that the Foundation has formed with businesses like GastroIntestinal Healthcare.
“Partnerships between local GI practices are essential for the success of these events and the growth of the Chapter,” says Coppedge. “We’re proud of our ongoing efforts to send kids to Camp Oasis—for some their first-ever experience with summer camp. We’d like to thank GastroIntestinal Healthcare for their contributions to creating a future free from Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.”
The CCFA EDGE Gala featured Master of Ceremonies Greg Fishel, Chief Meteorologist with WRAL TV 5, as well as live and silent auctions and contests throughout the evening, local art, and live entertainment. GastroIntestinal Healthcare Practice Administrator Nancy Nicoll O’Neill said that she was unaware of Camp Oasis and was immediately drawn to its commitment to children with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
“I understand the limitations that our adult patients encounter [with Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis],” says Nicoll O’Neill. “It’s gratifying to know that there is a place specifically designed for children with these same digestive problems where they can go during the summer and just enjoy being kids. Camp Oasis is an invaluable experience, and we’re proud of our involvement to raise awareness for this important program.”
