NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world, continues to expand quality and coverage in South America’s Southern Cone with the availability of its most recent NAVTEQ® map of Argentina and launch of a new Intermediate Map for Uruguay. With this combined coverage, NAVTEQ customers are able to develop navigation applications that will provide end-users a more direct route from Patagonia to Sao Paulo, Brazil and points beyond.
NAVTEQ collects up to 260 road network attributes when building its country specific maps and uses local geographic analysts to verify the accuracy of the map’s content. With the most recent NAVTEQ map of Argentina, several new cities in the country have achieved complete verification of all attributes for all the major highways and secondary roads.
The Intermediate Map for Uruguay contains 36,337 km of roads. Based on third-party sourced data deemed by NAVTEQ to be the highest quality available, Intermediate Map sets do not adhere to the same specifications or required verification as the company’s flagship product, the NAVTEQ® map but support NAVTEQ customers interested in utilizing location information to make better business decision or introducing location-based services (LBS) and routing applications in emerging geographic regions.
“The Southern Cone is an important economic corridor for South America,” stated Helder Azevedo, general director of sales - Latin America, NAVTEQ. “With the addition of Uruguay and expanded coverage and quality in Argentina, our customers will be able extend the utility of navigation and location-based services to match the exponential growth in devices that support these services.”
NAVTEQ has 33 employees located in Argentina. In addition to collection and production support, technical customer support is available in the Argentine office to assist customers in working with the NAVTEQ map database. Because NAVTEQ standardizes their map database to a single global data specification, customers can more easily reinvest development efforts used for bringing product to market for Argentina into applications to enter markets in other countries. This becomes extremely useful in South America where in addition to Argentina and Uruguay, NAVTEQ provides maps for Brazil, Chile, Colombia, French Guiana, Peru, and Venezuela.
