Memphis, TN, United States, 2010/11/29 - Orchid Design, a division of Orchid Orthopedic Solutions, continues investment and expansion at the Memphis facility with strategic hires and investment in prototyping and test equipment.

Orchid Design launched a Memphis Design Center in January 2009 with the objective to provide additional capacity, a local presence in the strong Memphis market and enhanced capabilities in developing orthopedic instruments and implants. Since the launch, Orchid Design has experienced increased demand for orthopedic product development services and has responded by adding six new employees in 2010. The expansion of staff adds 30 years of orthopedic manufacturing experience to the prototype team and 28 years of orthopedic engineering experience to the design team. Orchid’s investment in this expansion is consistent with its goal of providing complete contract services to the orthopedic community including innovative Product Development and Prototype services.
Memphis has proven to be a beneficial location as it is one to the top orthopedic centers of excellence in the world. The facility’s proximity to some of Orchid’s top customers and ability to utilize the logistics infrastructure of Memphis has allowed for easy access and communication, driving the rapid growth in this region.
According to Mike Cordonnier, Engineering Manager of the Memphis design facility, “One of the primary goals in expanding the Memphis facility is to develop projects and employees that continually diversify the experience and project portfolio of the Orchid Design team.”
The strategic location has also helped Orchid Design’s development. According to Steve Maguire, General Manager of Orchid Design, “another goal of opening another facility is to keep our product development teams small, fast and innovative as well as geographically relevant.”
Teams in Memphis and Shelton collaborate on client projects together, providing customers with a variety of innovative solutions to challenging engineering problems.
