In addition to MySpace and Hi5, the monitor currently tracks the local social networks StudiVZ, MeinVZ, SchulerVZ (Germany), Nasza Klasa, Grono.net (Poland), Tuenti (Spain). The website shows app name, developer, number of installs and the change compared to the week before. More social networks will be added in future. This initiative of Newzoo and Social Games Observer adds dynamic game-specific data to the survey results on social gaming already available from the International Gamers Survey.
Half of the German population with access to internet is active on social networks. Of these 29M, almost 60% also plays “social games” and 5.5M Germans spend money doing so. Facebook reaches 8.5M social gamers, half of the German total. Of the local players, the StudiVZ social network comes in second with 4.4M social gamers, without counting the sister sites MeinVZ and SchűlerVZ.
Most popular game on MySpace is Mobsters (Playdom) with 15M installs. Barn Buddy (The Broth) is leading the Hi5 games leaderboard with almost 3M installs. Local European social networks are untouched by the large US-based social games publishers. German Wooga and Chinese developer Elex lead the charts on Germans popular VZ social networks used by 17 million Germans, comparable to the 18M Germans on Facebook.
