Wrexham, United Kingdom, 2010/11/11 - Simon Morrell, author of “From Bullied to Blackbelt” and leading North Wales based martial artist has announced his support for a virtual anti-bullying campaign which marks the start of Anti-Bullying Week next week.

Simon will be joining leading anti-bullying campaigners, Beatbullying, and their friends in the Big March on Monday 15 November 2010, the world's first virtual march which invites young people, their friends and families, to march across 50 websites to ask the Government for help with protecting children from bullying, violence and harassment.
As a child and a young adult, Simon Morrell (SimonMorrell.co.uk), was the victim of relentless bullying which escalated into unprovoked violent assaults. This led to agoraphobia, panic attacks and an eventual nervous breakdown. Simon turned to martial arts and Karate for solace and has since used his experience to write a number of books and establish his own Martial Arts Academy in North Wales, where he runs a number of classes including No More Bully for children to develop self confidence through martial arts.
Commenting on his support for the Big March Simon said: “I know from experience that bullying can damage confidence and self esteem. My schooldays were dogged by bullies who threatened me with knives, spat at me and beat me up: this traumatic adolescence continued into my adult years and I became anxious and agoraphobic. Although I have had more than my fair share of adversity, I remain an optimist and continue to do what I can to use my life experience to empower others through my writing and teaching. "
“I’m supporting the Big March because I believe it’s an innovative and dynamic way to engage young people in preventing bullying, providing support and ensuring more is done to shape attitudes and change behaviour."
Simon Morrell’s biography “From Bullied to Blackbelt” is soon to be adapted for a feature film by Chris Coulton, producer of new film Little Voices.
Producer, Chris Coulton said “Simon's story is incredibly inspiring and I am looking forward to developing a feature film production, based in North Wales.”
