Holland Construction is paving the way for a new playground for students at Pinnacle Academy in Lakewood Ranch, a private, non-denominational school for children with autism and related behavioral disorders. Holland Construction donated its time and heavy machinery to level the site and install playground equipment, basketball hoops and tetherball sets.
“We’re honored to be able to donate our time, equipment and services to this project,” said Joe Holland, President of Holland Construction Corporation. “The staff at Pinnacle Academy is so dedicated to supporting children with autism, and we’re happy to help them in their mission to create an ideal environment that allows these kids to thrive.”
Pinnacle Academy provides children and their families with a unique, supportive educational setting.
According to Dr. Kristina Ordetx, Director of Pinnacle Academy, “Our philosophy is based on the agreement between researchers, educators and parents, which strongly suggests that ‘early is essential and more is better.’ We believe children should not be expected to mold into a classroom environment or teaching style, but rather that the setting and methodology should be developed to suit each individual child.”
Joe Holland is on the board of the Center for Autism Resources and Education (CARE), which provides families who are facing autism or a related disability in the Sarasota/Manatee, Florida, area with resources, support and education. Autism is a complex brain disorder that often inhibits a person’s ability to communicate, respond to surroundings and form relationships with others. It affects 1 in 100 children in the United States.
