GE Healthcare is advancing the role of magnetic resonance across the cancer care continuum with the introduction of new solutions for radiation therapy planning on the premium wide bore 1.5T Optima™ MR450w, which is being showcased at the annual American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) meeting, October 31 to November 2 in San Diego.
Combined with the Optima MR450w’s high spatial integrity, large 50cm field of view and uncompromised image quality, the Radiation Oncology Options offers clinicians potential improvements in tumor targeting in brain, head/’neck and pelvis therapy sites.
With the continued improvement in the precision of radiation therapy, magnetic resonance’s exceptional ability to differentiate soft tissue, positions the technology to play an increasingly important role in radiation oncology and overall cancer patient management.
“Without exception, the first step in effectively reducing the time, effort and success in fusing MR to CT images for radiation treatment planning is the consistent set-up of patients in the MR scanner exactly as they are in planning CT,” said Bryan Van Meter, global marketing manager of GE Healthcare’s MR Surgical and Radiation Oncology group.
The Radiation Oncology options were developed in partnership with CIVCO Medical Solutions, an industry leader in radiation therapy patient positioning devices. The offering consists of a flat couch insert with industry standard indexing and MR compatible positioning devices for brain, head/neck, and pelvis.
