In addition to Post University’s $5,000 underwriting sponsorship of this year’s Leadership Greater Waterbury program, the University is working with the Waterbury Regional Chamber to update the curriculum and add an online learning and collaboration component.
During this 9-month program, local business leaders will join together to hone their leadership skills
and develop projects designed to meet specific needs of the greater Waterbury community. This year’s program will incorporate some of the teachings of the Post University Online MBA Degree Program, including curriculum focused on creativity, innovation and leadership that was developed by Post University faculty who not only have advanced degrees, but decades of experience in the business world. The University also will create a special online learning environment that will enable participants to collaborate in between their monthly in-person meetings.
“Although Post University has been an important part of the Waterbury community for the last 120 years, we are committed to taking an even larger role in supporting our local business leaders,” said Douglas Brown, Academic Program Manager for the Entrepreneurship concentration of Post University’s MBA Degree Program and Director of the Post University Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. “Incorporating some of the teachings of our MBA degree program will aid participants in developing the kinds of skills that can make a real and immediate difference in their businesses and in the greater Waterbury community as a whole. The addition of an online collaboration component also is a natural extension of our expertise in the online learning arena.”
The program, which begins on Thursday, Oct. 21, is organized by a Steering Committee led by Chair Dawn Orsini, Vice President of Retail Banking and Branch Administration at Naugatuck Savings Bank. This year’s class includes 18 business leaders from organizations throughout the Waterbury Regional Chamber’s 13-town region.
Participants meet once a month for an 8-hour day of workshops, panel discussions and site visits. Class days address topics including history, economic development, media and communications, government and public policy, health and human services, arts and entertainment, and education. Generous class day sponsors include MacDermid, Inc., Webster Bank, Halloran & Sage Government Affairs, LLP, the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, Savings Bank of Danbury, and Naugatuck Savings Bank. Participants also collaborate on a self-directed, community-oriented team project that requires between 20-40 hours of volunteer commitment.
“Over the years, program participants have not only improved their leadership skills, but made a real and lasting difference in the greater Waterbury community,” said Lynn G.
