"You stay classy, San Diego."
With that line in "Anchorman," Will Ferrell as Ron Burgundy created a catchphrase that will forever define San Diego.
The organization Stay Classy Inc., which is based in San Diego, took the idea and used it to reach out to young professionals and get them more involved in their communities throughout the United States.
Now, it's coming to the New York City Area.
Stay Classy (stayclassy.org), which has helped raise $300,000 since its inception five years ago, has organized an awards ceremony dedicated to honoring those who give back.
The 2nd Annual Classy Awards will recognize the top philanthropic achievements in eight cities across the country: Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, San Diego, San Francisco andWashington D.C.
StayClassy and NBC New York choose The Nourishing Kitchen of NYC as one of the five nominees who should be recognized for their achievements.
"The inaugural year for the Classy Awards was a huge success with hundreds of nominations and over 20,000 votes cast for the winners," said Scot Chisholm, CEO of the San Diego-based StayClassy.
"We are excited to partner with local NBC affiliates to help expand the event to seven additional cities across the country, allowing us to recognize the achievements of thousands of worthy organizations this year," Chisholm said.
On Oct. 9, The Nourishing Kitchen of NYC will start collecting votes for Charity of the Year for New York City as well as for Gina Keatley, nominated as the New York Volunteer of The Year at stayclassy.org/classy-awards.
More than $100,000 will be donated to support the charitable efforts of the 10 national Classy Awards winners.
Classy Awards partners include: NBC Bay Area, NBC Chicago, NBC Los Angeles, NBC New York, NBC San Diego, NBC Washington, Guidestar.org, Legalzoom, Yelp, Young Nonprofit Professionals Network - San Diego & New York chapters, Volunteer SD, and L.A. Works.
