From September 2011, the historic site of Pope’s Villa on the banks of the Thames in Twickenham is to become home to Radnor House, a brand new independent day school for boys and girls aged 7 to 18.
Radnor House will focus on academic achievement complemented by a strong programme of the creative arts and sport. The ethos of ‘celebrating every individual’ will be central to the school’s approach, and there will be a broad and enriched curriculum.
Radnor House Head Master, Robert Cook, has 23 years’ experience of running top-performing schools and has been a member of the Head Masters Conference, which comprises the leading independent schools both in the British Isles and internationally. For the past 10 years he has run Victoria College, a fee paying Jersey based school and prior to that was Headmaster of St Augustine’s College in Wiltshire, one of the previous Conservative Government’s flagship schools.
Robert Cook says, ‘Parents and children have a unique opportunity to experience the vibrancy and energy which comes with a new school. Radnor House will help young people achieve their very best personally and academically. We will do this through providing support not only for academic excellence, but also a broad set of extra-curricular activities that will help our young people become the leaders of the future.’
Links with nearby St Mary’s University College and the Thames Young Mariners’ Club will provide excellent facilities and unique extra-curricular opportunities for students, whilst the Covent Chapel at the heart of the building will become the location for concerts and recitals by students and visiting musicians.
Alexander Pope’s villa stood on the site from 1719 where Pope built a grotto which was famous both in its day and to the present time. Radnor House plans to breathe new life into these magnificent buildings to become the natural choice of parents for the education of their sons and daughters.

Radnor House is accepting applications from students aged 7 and above for the Preparatory School commencing September 2011 and from students aged 11 to 15 for the secondary school. The Sixth Form at Radnor House will start in September 2013 to facilitate the first cohort of GCSE students who will start at the school next September.

Thursday 4 November 2010 - 9.30am and 1pm
The team at Radnor House (radnorhouse.org) will be led by Robert Cook, an experienced Head of 23 years. He will be supported by David Paton, Deputy Head, whose previous experience includes Dulwich College and the Harrodian School in Barnes. The team has been strengthened further by the appointment of Dr Colin Diggory as a non-executive director. Dr Diggory recently retired after eight years as Head Master at Alleyn’s School in Dulwich. He has 34 years’ experience in education including 11 years as Head of Latymer Upper School in Hammersmith.
