Real Women. Real Hits. Real Heart. After an exciting season, the Toronto Roller Derby League (ToRD) begins counting down to the championship game. Establishing their rankings throughout the summer, ToRD will now play two semi-final games to determine who will play the championship bout. The action starts this Saturday, October 2nd, in the Hangar at Downsview Park. The first semi-final game features the up and coming, Smoke City Betties (0-3), pitted against the top ranked, savage sweethearts on wheels, the Gore-Gore Rollergirls (3-0).
The game of roller derby is fast-paced; if you need any explanation about the rules, penalties and strategies there are many ToRD members staffing the event that have the answers you need. Sitting with rollergirls in the bleachers is also a great way to get the inside scoop on the action. “Come find me at the bout and I’d be happy to explain the legal blocking zones,” says Death Track Doll skater Downright Dirty Dawson, “or better yet, I can show you!”
From the second the doors open to the last whistle, these DIYers prove that they can throw an event as well as a hip check. Complete with a great half-time show, this highly entertaining sport is parallel to none! The league is organized and maintained by the skaters, for the skaters and there is only way one way to see amazing women in action. This Saturday October 2nd, ToRD guarantees a game full of intense strategies and straight-up contact as the Smoke City Betties and the Gore-Gore Rollergirls collide on the concrete. Only one team will come out alive.
Doors open at 6:30 pm with the bout commencing at 7:30 pm. Tickets can be purchased in advance from our ticket outlets for $12, online for $14, or at the door for $18. After party at the Garrison, 1197 Dundas Street West.
The Toronto Roller Derby League is an independently founded organization, 100% owned and operated by the skaters and referees. Established in 2006, the league is now comprised of six tough and dedicated teams: the Gore-Gore Rollergirls, the Smoke City Betties, the Chicks Ahoy!, the Death Track Dolls, farm team the D-VAS, and an all-star travel team, CN-Power.
