Denver, CO, United States, 2010/08/09 - DSO Gaming Clan's Halo 3 team earned a spot amongst the top 44 teams at Major League Gaming's most recent event in Denver, Colorado. As a team, players advanced five rounds, and individual FFA players advanced 6 rounds in this amateur tournament.

The pro-circuit bound DSO Z3RO players, DSO Ace and DSO Bearclaw, arrived exhausted after a fourteen hour drive to the MLG Combine event in Denver.
On the first day of the event, all players competed individually in the free-for-all competition (FFA). Both DSO Ace and DSO Bearclaw placed in the top four in each round played. Ace, DSO’s Halo Competitive Teams Manager and Z3RO team captain, took first place in two of the three rounds after receiving a bye in round one. Z3RO co-captain, Bearclaw aka TA_Zero 2, took second in two of his FFA heats. He achieved an incredible killing streak during the tournament, known as a “killtrocity,” and was then eliminated in the fourth round. The team’s third player, who goes by the gamer aliases LikaCouple JIRS and Lika1000 JIRS, was 15th overall in the FFA by the end of the third round. JIRS advanced further on to the 5th round, drawing the attention of MLG officials who were carefully tracking his stats. The result yielded coveted MLG points for the team and a higher seed (49) in the team competition on the following day.
Day two showcased the 4v4 Team Competition in which DSO Z3RO received a bye during round one thanks to their excellent performance in the FFA.
Round 2 of the team competition was highly anticipated by all. Gamers clutched their controllers, professional headsets and eyewear, waiting for their team to be called to a station. With fellow DSO clanmates, family, and other MLG friends cheering them on, the DSO Z3RO team stepped up to the controls and set the standard for the match. They handily took the first game of Slayer, 50-39. Carrying the momentum to the next game, Z3RO captured their opponent’s flag in under two minutes. Team Z3RO took the match easily, 2 games to none for the win. DSO Z3RO moved up in the winners bracket, to Round 3.
Round 3 of the Winners Bracket brought a greater challenge to Z3RO. DSO’s opponents were more skilled in Round 3 with the 49th-seeded Z3RO facing off against the 16th seeded team, Ay Day. With confidence, DSO Z3RO took a commanding 10+ point lead in the first game against the much higher seeded team before Ay Day rallied for a surprising comeback, bumping Z3RO to the losers bracket.
Z3RO moved on to the 4th Round with renewed confidence and defeated BlindNoodleGod: 2-0.
Round 5 was a hard fought battle; Z3RO took the first game and went up 1-0. Tension built, and drama surrounded the second game. In the end the match was tied 1-1. Team leader DSO Ace rallied with a killing spree in the last game but narrowly lost by two frags in Slayer: 50-48. The match result was 2-1, eliminating Z3RO from the competition.
Individually, DSO Ace placed 66th overall out of over 400 team players.
