Women’s eNews has today launched the nomination process for the 10th annual 21 Leaders for the 21st Century. Over a 3-month period Women’s eNews will receive a catalog of the women and men who work hard to improve the lives of women worldwide and it’s important to make sure young women are represented.
Over the last nine years Women’s eNews has hand-picked twenty women and one man for the 21 Leaders for the 21st Century from an awe-inspiring, reader nominated-list of those who make news, often at great personal risk, by confronting issues of particular concern to women.
Each year one of the 21 spots is reserved to honor the work of a young woman recognizing the importance of the next generation of women’s rights advocates. 2009 honoree, 17-year-old Nadia Farjood, supporter of Afghan and Iranian women, and 2007 honoree, 19-year-old Shelby Knox, advocate and speaker on reproductive rights, set the bar high for upcoming winners but Women’s eNews believes this politically and socially active generation of young women will step up to fill their shoes.
Women’s eNews’ 21 Leaders of 2011 will join the 189 previous honorees in a newly launched alumni network established by 2004 honoree Ann Glauber and 2009 honoree Susan Schiffer Stautberg. The 21 Leaders Collaborative will bring together the intellectual capital of previous 21 Leaders, create powerful and effective relationships to continue work that changes women’s lives, and expand the influence of each member. Being a part of this will create an awesome start for the careers of young women who are passionate about women’s rights.
Women’s eNews invites nominations from across the globe to expand knowledge of the sheer diversity of accomplishments in women’s health, education and empowerment.
