STARA Technologies, Inc. has agreed to purchase FLIR Star SAFIRE® systems, including both the Star SAFIRE® III and Star SAFIRE® HD stabilized multi sensor systems, to support its Persistent Ground Surveillance System (PGSS) program for the U.S. Army. The PGSS program supports the U.S. Army Force Protection requirements in Afghanistan.
STARA’s President Colin McCavitt stated, “We are excited to work with FLIR and utilize their camera systems to enhance the protection efforts for our troops in Afghanistan by increasing the situational awareness in day or night operations.” The protection efforts focus on Forward Operating Bases (FOB) in Afghanistan and the use of tethered aerostats, as well as mobile tower systems to conduct 24-hour surveillance of an area around the FOB where U.S. troops are located.
