Medical Doctor Associates (MDA) celebrated the renewal of its professional liability policy in the second quarter of 2010. This marked the 10th consecutive year of MDA’s relationship with Medical Protective.
It also marked the 24th consecutive year that MDA has made occurrence form insurance available to Locum Tenens physicians. During that period, the company has utilized only two liability carriers.
“We value long-term relationships and seek them out in our business ventures,” said Anne Anderson, executive vice president of MDA Holdings, Inc. “This speaks greatly to our stability and affords us the ability to provide the greatest degree of protection available to physicians and other medical providers.”
Ms. Anderson also touted MDA’s ability to provide occurrence form insurance to the medical providers.

“For the physician, occurrence form insurance means that when they leave an assignment, they truly leave the assignment,” Ms. Anderson said. “They do not have to worry about a lapse in malpractice coverage in the event of a claim.”
“With occurrence form insurance, a claim is covered as long as coverage is in place when the incident occurred,” she explained. “Claims-made coverage provides protection only if the incident occurred and the claim is made during the covered policy period.”
“Sometimes that claim can come years later, “ she said. “Occurrence form insurance takes away the worry for a locum tenens physician and client as to whether an insurance tail has been appropriately purchased or earned.”
