Since 2008 the number of women in office has declined. The number of women currently holding office in the United States are dismal. Only 24 percent of state legislators nationwide are women and only 17 percent of the US Congress is female. Internationally, the US ranks anywhere from 61st to 73rd in terms of women's representation. The 2012 Project is a unique opportunity to change those numbers.

Mary Hughes has directed campaigns and advised elected officials in contests resulting in a number of groundbreaking "firsts:" including the first woman in US history to lead her Party in the Congress Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
