NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world, announces that the United States Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) has selected NAVTEQ® map data to support geospatial information and services for the Research and Innovative Technology Administration, Bureau of Transportation Statistics (RITA/BTS).
NAVTEQ map data will be used by the RITA across a wide variety of research and analysis programs in support of its mission to bring advanced technologies into the transportation system. NAVTEQ map data will be integrated with geospatial transportation networks and facilities to enable a multi-modal network that supports routing within the RITA/BTS application, GeoMiler. The GeoMiler application develops core multi-modal routing models for domestic and export shipments for various transportation systems including sea ports, airports, railways and roads. GIS Solutions, a leading GIS services and product company, will aggregate the NAVTEQ map with other supported data and then convert the data into useable formats supported by the GeoMiler application.
“NAVTEQ is committed to supporting all Federal Government agencies and we are excited to be selected by the U.S. DOT as an integral operational component,” said Roy Kolstad, vice president, Enterprise Americas, NAVTEQ. “Access to a complete, accurate nationwide map dataset will help the U.S. DOT develop and deliver research and analysis more efficiently and facilitate greater geospatial transportation collaboration.”
NAVTEQ map data includes geospatial information such as roads, cities, political boundaries, physical features, places, railroads, census boundaries, parks, schools, fire departments, police departments, hospitals and many other geospatial vector data layers of important value to the U.S. DOT.
NAVTEQ will work with GIS Solutions, Inc to provide technical assistance and GIS technical expertise to the U.S. DOT. "We are pleased to add U.S. DOT to our list of federal clients who will be leveraging NAVTEQ map data. U.S. DOT will be able to use the power of NAVTEQ maps to support their innovative solutions and enterprise GIS data management." states Tim Johnson, President, GIS Solutions, Inc.
