Datafrond, a product life cycle management company, came to Amadeus Consulting looking for a way to visually represent current project data. Amadeus Consulting created a dynamic data visualization user interface, using Flex, a rich Internet application tool that allows its clients to search and view project information in a visual manner.
Datafrond approached Amadeus Consulting because of our technical expertise in doing rich Internet application development and the companies’ “Everything is Possible” philosophy. The company appreciated the fact that Amadeus Consulting was willing to take on this challenging project.
Datafrond wanted to create a visual representation of its current project system for a more intuitive user experience. The goal was to make the current information easier to search and use, as well as allow users the ability to visually see project milestones and project progress.
Amadeus Consulting tackled this project by utilizing Adobe® Flex®, to convey Datafrond’s project information into a Rich Internet Application (RIA). Flex is a framework for building highly interactive, expressive web applications that deploy consistently on all major browsers, desktops, and operating systems. It also has a rich UI design and user experience capabilities. MXML, a declarative XML-based language, is used to describe UI layout and behaviors, and ActionScript™ 3, a powerful object-oriented programming language, is used to create client logic.
Amadeus Consulting used Flex to build from scratch a dynamic data visualization user interface and then leveraged Datafrond’s existing web services to integrate the new UI with its existing website. Though dynamic data visualization is a difficult endeavor, Amadeus Consulting was up to the challenge. The new UI integrated seamlessly with the existing website and has been a great asset for Datafrond’s clients. It allows users the ability to not only search for project information, but be able to see an overall project picture from beginning to end.
