Carlisle Development Group, the largest affordable housing real estate developer in Florida, and Miami-Dade County, held a groundbreaking ceremony for Brownsville Transit Village, Miami’s newest affordable housing community for families and seniors. Located at 5200 NW 27 Avenue in Miami, the $100 million mixed-income, multi-phase, urban in-fill development is located adjacent to the Miami-Dade Transit Brownsville Metro-Rail Station.
“Brownsville Transit Village is an urban infill development that will offer local residents affordable, quality homes, while minimizing the impact that regular urban sprawl has on our environment,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez. “Metrorail joint-development projects like Brownsville Transit Village foster sustainable growth by combining residential and commercial use with immediate access to rapid transit.”
Located in Brownsville, one of Miami’s historically low income communities, Brownsville Transit Village includes a total of 467 affordable housing units over 5.8 acres consisting of 5 phases of mid to high-rise buildings. Different phases will target families and seniors plus affordable housing for the entire community. Each phase will seek basic LEED certification, focusing on reducing energy and resource consumption. The Miami-Dade County Surtax program contributed approximately $4 million toward the funding of Brownsville Transit Village.
“We applaud the efforts of Commissioner Audrey Edmonson and Mayor Carlos Alvarez to bring needed affordable housing to Miami-Dade County,” said Matt Greer, CEO, Carlisle Development Group. Amenities in each phase include a community center, computer lab, and exercise room. Onsite programs offered include literacy training, health and nutrition classes and first time homebuyer seminars. Approximate net rents, depending on household income, range from $319 - $660 for a one-bedroom; $374 - $784 for a two-bedroom; and $404 - $877 for a three-bedroom.
Founded in 1997, Carlisle Development Group (carlisledevelopmentgroup.com) is a fully integrated real estate company which has developed, leased and managed affordable housing developments throughout Florida totaling over 7,500 residential units and more than one billion dollars in total development costs.
