The CEO title formalizes responsibilities that Burrell – who co-founded the company in 1999 along with her husband, Glenn – has managed for years. Glenn Burrell will retain the title of president of Sunstates Security.
In her capacity as CEO, Burrell takes on additional responsibilities that help advance the company’s strategic vision, including community relations, human resources management and industry and trade alliances. Meanwhile, she continues to oversee many of Sunstates Security’s day-to-day business operations, including corporate finances.
“Since co-founding Sunstates with me, Kathy has been closely involved in all of our operations and is largely responsible for our successful growth, so a formal title reflecting her leadership is long overdue,” said Glenn Burrell, president. “As our company continues to grow nationally, Kathy’s capable administration will guide that progress.”
When the Burrells started Sunstates, the company operated in one state, had one branch office and employed 15 workers. Sunstates now operates in 11 states with more than 600 employees on payroll.
The company recently relocated its Raleigh headquarters to accommodate an expanded staff and larger dedicated personnel training facility. Sunstates’ focus on superior customer service has allowed it to grow organically in an industry where growth usually occurs with mergers and acquisitions.
Before launching the privately owned Sunstates Security, Kathryn Burrell managed a successful multi-million-dollar, family-owned home improvement business in the United Kingdom. Prior to that, she worked in the human resources department of NatWest, a large bank subsidiary of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group.
