ArtistWorks, Inc. - In celebration of the First Anniversary of the Qbert Skratch University, DJ Qbert has launched the first annual “Vinyl Valedictorian ” online DJ battle. The battle will be open to all QSU students and will be presided over by DJ Qbert. Ten students were also named to the Honor Roll, as nominated by their peers. The QSU provides an online learning experience for turntablists around the world to study under the “Undisputed King of Turntablism” using an online video lessons-exchange platform and active online classroom created by ArtistWorks.
The 2010 Vinyl Valedictorian Battle launched last week and will be open for submissions through June 14. A custom “Battle” tab has been added to the Master Class section of the QSU where students who choose to participate will submit a 3-minute skratch video. Each two-part video must include a Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced skratch technique from the QSU curriculum, and a freestyle segment incorporating at least three skratches taught in the QSU. QSU students will be able to view and judge the submissions based on Art, Cleanliness, Style, Combinations, Musicality, and Originality—all skills honed in the QSU curriculum—and narrow down a Final Three. Professor Qbert himself will then select the 2010 “Vinyl Valedictorian” champion.
The QSU 2010 Vinyl Valedictorian will receive a special badge on his/her student page, a one year scholarship to the QSU, and the opportunity to act as Substitute Teacher for two lessons in a special section of the QSU curriculum. The winning video submission will be showcased on the QSU and Thud Rumble YouTube channels as well as the QSU Facebook page. The Valedictorian will receive an exclusive Thud Rumble Prize Package that includes double BOSS (Best of Skratchy Seal) New Release coming summer 2010, and a one-of-a-kind QSU/Thud Rumble 2010 Vinyl Valedictorian jacket. Prize package, including tuition, is valued at over $500.
Participation in the Honor Roll and Vinyl Valedictorian program and voting is open to all students enrolled in the QSU. Enrollment is $60 for 3 months of lessons at qbertskratchuniversity.com/subscriptions.

About ArtistWorks
The ArtistWorks online visual education format (ArtistWorks.com) allows virtuoso musicians to “Teach the World” by presenting their full method, technique or curriculum in HD video to subscribing students of their sites. Simple webcams are used by the students to submit videos to the Artist through the site, for critique and guidance if they want personalized instruction. The Artists can easily review student-submitted videos using the ArtistWorks Video Management System (patent pending). Regardless of whether or not students participate in exchanging videos with the Artist, these “video-exchanges” are posted for all subscribing students to learn from. This groundbreaking use of video-exchange for the instruction of musical instruments has been implemented at Jimmy Bruno Guitar Institute, the Qbert Skratch University, Andreas Oberg Guitar Universe, Peery Piano Online, Tony Trischka School of Banjo, Howard Levy Harmonica School, and the new Martin Taylor Guitar Academy.
